Multi-award winning Transmedia Composer Tom Salta to

Give Keynote at GameSoundCon 2010 New York

August 23, 2010 Seattle, WA – SoundCon, LLC announced today that award-winning composer and producer Tom Salta (www.tomsalta.com), will present the Keynote Address at GameSoundCon 2010 New York, to be held on Oct 2 and 3 at the Faculty House in New York, New York. Tom Salta is one of the most  in demand music composer/producers working in multimedia including film, television, advertising and most notably video games, scoring blockbuster franchises including Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X, Red Steel and Prince Of Persia The Forgotten Sands.

“I’m thrilled to have such a talented, prolific and versatile composer as Tom give our keynote address,” said Brian Schmidt, Executive Director of GameSoundCon.  “Tom’s passion for what he does and attention to detail is well known in the industry.  Tom’s background in both the traditional music and video game industries will give GameSoundCon attendees a real-world perspective on crossing over from traditional audio to the world of video games.”

“The world of video games is definitely a very unique market. For people who are into games, this is what they live and breathe.” said Salta.  “Shortly after the original Xbox came out, I started playing games like Halo and Rainbow Six. Given the fact that I was an avid video game player — a gamer since the pre-Atari 2600 days — it was always a big hobby of mine, but never in a million years did I see these two worlds colliding.  Then I had my epiphany: This is what I need to be doing.  And I haven't looked back since.”

“There are huge differences between composing film music and composing video game music.  Video game sound design also presents special challenges unique to video games,” continued Salta.  “GameSoundCon provides the essential information anyone serious about doing video game music or video game sound design needs to know and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

In addition to his award winning original game scores, his music can be heard in the soundtracks to hit games such as Crackdown, The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift and Project Gotham Racing 3 as well as many television shows on ABC, CBS, MTV, NBC and national commercials. Salta’s anthemic orchestral scores for the Tom Clancy franchise captured the attention of the US Marines and subsequently he was recently assigned to create the music for the Marine Corps' latest recruitment commercial entitled "America's Few." Salta's orchestral music for Hollywood movie trailers and promos includes Toy Story 3, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, Astro Boy, and Coraline. Prior to his composing career, Salta toured with and worked on releases by a diverse array of popular artists such as Peter Gabriel, Junior Vasquez, Everything But The Girl, Deep Forest, Mary J. Blige and Sinead O’Connor..

In addition to Salta’s keynote address, GameSoundCon features two days of seminars and panels on video game music composition and video game sound design, focusing on the unique technical, creative and business challenges of working in the video game industry.

GameSoundCon Adds Rock Band Network Training Sessions to Los Angeles Conference Agenda

August 27, 2009 Seattle, WA – SoundCon, LLC announced today that it is working with MTV Games’ Harmonix Music Systems, developer of Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band, to bring two days of training sessions on how musicians can create and publish original music in the Rock Band Network to GameSoundCon 2009 in Los Angeles.
The Rock Band Network, announced <http://www.rockband.com/news/rbn> in July, is a ground-breaking initiative that gives musicians, publishers and record labels the ability to author their original recordings into gameplay files and sell their music as playable Rock Band tracks through the newly created Rock Band Network Music Store.

The Rock Band Network training sessions at GameSoundCon, facilitated by Harmonix employees, will be one of the first live public sessions to demonstrate how  musicians, record labels and publishers can author their original recordings into gameplay files for publication on the Rock Band Network.  Once published and approved through a peer review process, tracks uploaded to the Rock Band Network Music Store will be available for download and purchase by millions of Rock Band players.

Training sessions will cover all aspects of getting your music onto the Rock Band Network, including how to create appropriate stem mixes, how to author songs using the Reaper tool, how to create a song package with Magma and how to audition your song before submitting your track. Further sessions will cover uploading your song for peer review, and publishing and promoting your song within the Rock Band Network. Besides the technical training on the custom tools, additional sessions will cover how to best map audio tracks to gameplay data in order to ensure a fun experience for players and even how to control crowd reactions and lighting during the performance.

“I’m incredibly excited to be able to add the Rock Band Network training to GameSoundCon,” said Brian Schmidt, conference Director.  “Authoring a track for play in a game like Rock Band requires specialized tools and skills, and to be able to learn directly from the handful of people in the world with this skill set and expertise is a truly unique opportunity.  GameSoundCon attendees who sign up for the Rock Band Network training will be at a huge advantage when the Rock Band Network publicly releases these tools later this year.”

In order to accommodate the new training sessions, the early-bird registration discount for GameSoundCon Los Angeles will also be extended until Sept 8.

In addition to the new Rock Band Network training sessions, GameSoundCon features two days of seminars and panels on video game music composition, video game sound design, and breaking into the video game industry, focusing on the unique technical, creative and business challenges of creating sound and music for video games.
